".......You get 2 sheets + the mounting kit for $68 delivered at home by motormeister - or direct from seinesystems (sp). They look cool and easy to mount. I was a bit concerned because my muffler is not stock, but it turned out not to be a problem. The things are returnable, although in fairness, if you test fit one and want to return it, you're a gutsier "returner" than me, I would not have dared because you can get them fairly dirty (maybe even scratched) in the process... The passenger side is a breeze, there is plenty of room to work with but sliding the sheet in position was a bit of a pain. So test fit the sheet first, then slide it out of the way (on top, on the side, whatever), then remove the bolts and put the replacement ones. If you did the bolts first, I don't know how you'd slide the sheet in there, at least on my car. The driver side was more of a 5 letter word starting with a B (bet that got by lyris), because my huge shielded muffler really got in the way and I could not see a thing. Ironically, the sheet itself slides in super easily, it's the bolts I could not see...until I realized I could look at it not from the outside in but from the inside out (lying under the middle of the car, looking towards the wheel). Piece of cake...I am not a mechanical genius, as you have gathered by now... " Here are a few pictures, thank you digital cameras....

"In conclusion: Those thing look really sweet, once bolted on and wiped clean ;-) And, yes, they seem to work. I am a bit anal when it comes to temperatures on my car, so trust me when I say those things cannot be bad. At that price, even a drop of 10F is a good deal (check out the price of an oil cooler).. From the way they are mounted, they do not touch anything, do not replace anything, they really can't hurt. By putting them on, you realize how close the huge/hot pipes from your exhaust/heat exchanger are from the bottom of the engine. Having a piece of metal in between makes perfect sense... I drove the car back to work, same road I take every day (and I know my temps gauge readings by heart), and saw exactly one needle width of difference. Not huge (and not much of a test), but definitely there. My mechanic was saying that those shields should be good anyway, if only to protect the engine from convection heat after you stop the car (still hot, on a track or something), and several of his customers had similar setups handmade. Seems to me the heetsheet (I hate that spelling though) would be of greater benefit on the driver side on my car (83 SC), but hey, they look good on both sides ;-) One question for Roy and others.. My mechanic recommended I loctite the external screw because there is a lot of vibrations in that area. Do you agree ? Also, I tightened by feel (no torque wrench), but if you tighten the outer screw, doesn't that tighten the inside bolt also ? Anyway, looks like a great cheap idea, installed in 15 minutes (and I certainly am not good at mechanical stuff)" Greg. '83 SC
