Missed Shift All exhaust
valves were bent, especially the one 2nd from left and the
pistons "notched" by the force of the valve contact. The
race engine had enough margin to prevent further damage.
Street engines have less margin for error. The owner
estimates a repair cost of approximately $4000.
The owner was
fortunate as engine damage was actually less than imagined.
Over-reving often results in the piston shattering as the
overextended valve contacts it. Without the upper connecting
rod stabilized by the piston, the rod is free to destroy the
bottom end of the engine.
