Large
surface area of exhaust headers creates a high temperature
radiant heat source. Under
sustained, full-throttle conditions, these pipes can glow
red hot. An exhaust heat barrier such as
HeetSheet or the use of ceramic coatings (example shown
here) helps reduce radiant heat from
overheating the engine.
